Accordingly, Ms. Grabar-Kitarovic supports cooperation with Moscow and opposes efforts to isolate this country. "We want to have a dialogue about common threats to our security. We must cooperate together," the female head of state affirmed.
Speaking about the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, Ms. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic emphasized: "I really hope that the two heads of state of the two countries will show enough responsibility for global stability and transatlantic relations."
She expressed her belief that relations between the United States and Russia are of particular importance, including for preventing conflicts in the Balkans.
Commenting on Trump's criticism of some NATO member states for not spending enough money to support the military alliance, the Croatian president noted: "That's his character. I don't use that to oppose him."
“It is certainly unfair that the United States is carrying the burden of European defense,” Grabar-Kitarovic said. “We are first and foremost responsible for our own security,” the Croatian president added.
“Sports brings people together. People in all countries are tired of ideological differences, of always looking to the past,” she noted.
