Indonesian volcano erupts, thousands evacuated.
Thousands of people living near a volcano in Indonesia have been evacuated after it erupted violently.According to the BBC, Mount Sinabung, located on the island of Sumatra, awakened in 2010 but has been more active since June 2nd.
Prior to 2010, the volcano had been dormant for over 400 years. At least 3,000 people living near the crater have been evacuated, including 1,200 who left their homes on Monday.
Scientists are concerned that the volcano could pose even greater dangers in the coming weeks.
On Monday (June 15), at least 28 streams of pyroclastic, a mixture of hot gas and broken rock from the erupting volcano, cascaded down the slopes at high speed. The danger alert for the Sinabung volcano was raised to its highest level on June 2. At least 14 people were killed when pyroclastic streams from Sinabung rained down on nearby villages last February.
