In a quick exchange with Nghe An Newspaper reporters, Mr. Lo Minh Hoat - Vice Chairman of Ky Son District People's Council said that at around 1:00 p.m., in Na Mi village (Muong Tip commune), flash floods from Na Mi and Nam Tip streams swept away the student kitchen and the village's community house.
On the afternoon of July 19, Mr. Ha Ba Thai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Tip Commune (Ky Son District) said that the community house and the school are located right at the intersection where two streams meet. The water flowing into the stream is getting bigger and bigger, swirling and flowing rapidly. Behind the community house is Na Mi Primary School, which is also being threatened by the water and is at risk of being swept away. "The water is flowing fast and strong, so it is digging deep into the wall of the row of 5 classrooms. Currently, half of the row has cracks, is about to collapse and will be swept away by the water in a short time," said Mr. Thai.
Because it was summer vacation, teachers and students were not at school. The commune People's Committee mobilized militia forces, coordinated with border guards to break locks, carry desks, chairs, school supplies, remove main doors and windows and transport them to higher places. This work has been completed.
Mr. Ha Ba Thai also said that due to the impact of storm No. 3, there has been heavy rain in the commune since yesterday. Since this morning, the floodwater from upstream has been pouring into Nam Tit stream more and more. "The water is swirling, flowing strongly and rapidly, so 3 houses of people in Xop Phe and Xop Tit villages are also at risk of landslides. The commune is mobilizing forces to rescue and transport belongings to the people," said Mr. Thai.
Not only that, the rising floodwaters have also caused landslides in Nam Ly stream, where there is a road connecting Ta Ca commune and Muong Tip commune. Due to the strong and swift flow of water through the stream, it is cutting off traffic for people in the commune when they want to go to Muong Xen town. In addition, due to the impact of storm Son Tinh, there is currently heavy rain in Ky Son district. The iron bridge leading to Bung village, Muong Ai commune has also collapsed, causing many difficulties in traffic. Meanwhile, in Huoi Cang 1 village, Bac Ly commune, floodwaters have submerged 2 houses. Up to now, no human casualties have been recorded. The functional forces of mountainous districts are working with the people to fight the flood.
