The United States commemorates the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Fourteen years after the terrorist attacks in the United States that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people on September 11th, commemorative activities took place in many parts of the country, especially in Washington D.C. and New York City.
In Washington, at precisely 8:46 local time (7:46 PM Vietnam time), the exact moment on September 11, 2001, when hijackers crashed the first plane into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, US President Barack Obama and his wife, along with National Security Advisor Susan Rice and hundreds of White House staff, observed a minute of silence on the lawn of the building.
Afterward, President Obama hosted a meeting with troops at Fort Meade base in Maryland.
Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter also presided over a separate ceremony at the Pentagon that same day to commemorate the victims killed in the attack.

Meanwhile, in New York, relatives of nearly 3,000 victims who died in the terrorist attacks gathered at Ground Zero, now the 9/11 Memorial Museum, and took turns reading aloud the names of those who died in the attacks in New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, relatives of the 40 passengers and crew members on United Airlines Flight 93 gathered at the Flight 93 National Memorial in southwestern Pennsylvania, which opened on September 10th. The memorial features a wall displaying photos and names of the 40 victims, a memorial plaza, and a stone marking the crash site.
The final flight path of Flight 93 is commemorated by a dark granite-paved road that divides the National Memorial Center.
Prior to this, security had been tightened in major cities. The US government directed increased security surveillance in public places and major cities across the country during these days. Special forces police and sniffer dogs were deployed to crowded public areas, while undercover security personnel were also deployed.
On September 10, US police arrested a Florida man who was plotting to bomb a public place in Kansas City, Missouri, during the commemorations marking the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
