Raising 10,000 eels with artificial breed in mud-free tank, profit 50 million VND
Eel farming in the past often encountered difficulties because natural breeds were increasingly depleted and did not ensure quality; farming on muddy bottoms was difficult to manage, making eels susceptible to disease, low survival rate, high production costs... This model is applied to artificial breeds and mud-free tanks.
In the process of raising commercial eels, using fresh food (usually trash fish) is not proactive and does not ensure quality requirements, making eels susceptible to disease from fresh food sources, the farming water environment is easily polluted, affecting the efficiency of the model...
Commercial eels from the mud-free eel farming model using artificial breeding in Tien Giang province.
Faced with that situation, Tien Giang Agricultural Extension Center has built models for semi-artificial eel seed production, mud-free eel farming from artificial seeds using pellet feed, and organized vocational training classes at the models, which have initially brought positive results.
The first success was the semi-artificial eel seed production model that helped eel farmers proactively source quality seeds during the farming process. The artificial seeds are very healthy, uniform in size, disease-free, can use pellets, have little loss during farming, and meet the quality requirements and partly the quantity according to the needs of farmers.
Specifically, this eel farming model does not require a large area of land. With a meat density of 150 fish/m2, two 30m2 canvases can raise about 5,000 eels. The breed has been domesticated with pellets, so the food can be proactive. A water treatment pond of a few hundred square meters is enough (river water, well water or tap water can be pumped into the lake and then supplied through the eel farming canvas). Oxygen needs to be measured before supplying water through the eel farming canvas.
During the rearing process, biological products are periodically used to treat the water and mix into the eel feed. After 9 months of rearing, meat eels can be harvested with an average profit of 50 million VND/10,000 eels or the eel seed production model after 6 months of implementation has a profit of over 30 million VND/50kg of parent eels (about 120 pairs of parent eels).
The above source of eel seeds is provided to households raising eels without mud by using pellet feed, which has helped increase the survival rate of farmed eels and stabilize them during the farming process; using pellet feed helps to proactively control the food source, avoid destroying wild fish, reduce product costs, create a good water environment, and reduce disease; mud-free farming tarpaulins help to easily care for and manage eels and reduce disease.
Through the models, the production level of the people has been improved, thanks to the application of technical advances in production, typically the production of artificial breeds has increased the survival rate when raising; raising on mud-free canvas helps reduce diseases, easy to care for and manage; helping farmers increase income on the same unit of area.

Raising eels earns 200 million VND/year
(Baonghean.vn) - Yen Thanh has an abundant source of natural eels. Realizing that people catch eels that are still small and unusable and need to be raised, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Minh in Dong Thi hamlet, Do Thanh commune has invested in raising eels in cement tanks, earning a profit of 200 million VND per year.
