Snakehead fish that grow well and are sold at the end of the season can weigh nearly 2kg.

Raising fish in cement tanks has many advantages such as: you can use net covers to avoid direct sunlight, limit water overflow in the tank; cement tanks are built near water sources so it is convenient to take care of and change water daily... On an area of ​​200 square meters, Mr. Cuong divided it into 5 cement tanks to raise snakehead fish.

He imported snakehead fish fry from the South, the survival rate of snakehead fish when transferred from the Southern environment to the Central region is about 70%. Each snakehead fish crop, he releases over 20,000 fry; the cost of raising fry is about 24 million VND. The selected fry must be healthy and able to adapt to the new environment.

Snakehead fish are raised in cement tanks so problems with water sources, food and diseases can be quickly handled.

With 6 years of experience raising snakehead fish in cement tanks, Mr. Cuong said: "Raising fish in tanks does not grow as fast as in ponds, but you can take the initiative in water sources, and at the same time quickly handle fish diseases, so there are rarely risks. When raising, it is required to change the water in fish tanks every day to keep the water source for fish clean and cool.

The main food source for snakehead fish is baby fish. On average, each quintal of snakehead fish eats about 4kg of baby fish per day. The amount of money spent on fish food in a season (6 months) can be up to 200 million VND.

With a pond area of ​​200m2, the average annual yield is from 5 - 8 tons of snakehead fish, each year his family earns more than 200 million VND/year.

The time to release the fish fry is early March every year, after 6 months the first harvest can be done. The harvest time is within 1.5 - 2 months. The snakehead fish grow well, and can weigh nearly 2kg when sold at the end of the season. Each year, after deducting the cost of the fry and feed, his family earns more than 200 million VND.
