Commercial goat farming, a new direction in the Ky Son border area
(Baonghean.vn) - Ky Son Agricultural Extension Station has just coordinated with the People's Committee of Ky Son district and the Department of Science and Technology of the province to organize a workshop on the model of "Raising goats for meat" in Muong Ai commune.
The model was deployed from May 2017 for 7 households in Muong Ai commune, with a scale of 28 pigs, average weight from 11 to 12 kg/pig. Participating in the model, households are supported 100% of the cost of breeding pigs, 30% of animal feed, disease prevention vaccines, and barn disinfectants.

During the implementation process, households participating in the model must meet the following criteria: Having barns that meet hygiene requirements, having experience in goat farming, having enough grass for food, etc.
In addition, when participating in the model, households will receive technical training from Ky Son Agricultural Extension Station, applying scientific and technical advances in livestock farming. After 4 months of raising, the survival rate of goats reached over 96%, with an average weight of 20 to 21 kg/head.

At the workshop, experts assessed this as a successful model suitable for steep mountain terrain. If replicated, it will contribute to improving economic efficiency and changing the backward farming practices of people in mountainous areas.
