(Baonghean.vn) - In addition to raising bees for honey, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam, Quynh Hoa commune (Quynh Luu) also applies other technical processes to collect royal jelly. With this method, her family earns over 250 million VND per year.
In 1996, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam and her husband, Mr. Bui Ngoc An, started their career in beekeeping for honey. They started with 2 hives to get acquainted, but after seeing the high efficiency of the process, the family expanded to 60 hives. |
Ms. Nam said: Of the 60 bee colonies, 40 are domestic bee colonies raised for honey and 20 are foreign bee colonies raised for queen bee milk. To get the milk, human intervention is required. This work requires a strict process based on the natural instincts of bees. |
The best time to collect royal jelly is from September to March of the following year, because during this time the climate is cool so worker bees are diligent in finding food sources for the queen bee. |
To get royal jelly, her family created “fake queen buds” to trick worker bees into secreting milk into it to feed the queen bee larvae. The more milk the worker bees secreted, the more people took. And so people would enjoy the fruits of their labor. |
To effectively exploit royal jelly, her family brought many bee colonies to places with abundant pollen sources, and at the same time selected strong bee colonies with many young bees of milk-producing age, gave the bees supplementary food, and then moved the larvae. |
The milk extraction ladder is the same as the queen bee ladder, but the amount of latex is double (about 32 latex/ladder). Depending on the breeding capacity of each colony, we can set 1 or 3 ladders. Choose larvae from 12 to 18 hours old to move. In the photo: Mrs. Nam introduces the royal jelly extraction ladder. |
After about 72 hours of migration, we take the ladder out of the nest and use forceps to pick up the larvae and then use the migration needle to suck out the milk. Put the royal jelly in a glass jar, and continue to migrate the queen bee latex ladder to continue raising the larvae. |
Mrs. Nam said: each year her family collects over 200 liters of honey, earning over 60 million VND, in addition to earning over 150 million VND from selling royal jelly and whole bees. After deducting expenses, the total annual income reaches over 250 million VND/year. |
