Anger in Poland over announcement of Western troop deployment to Ukraine

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski's statement about the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine is completely unacceptable, columnist Lukas Warzecha wrote on the social network X.

"At the conference, one also heard extremely irresponsible statements about carrying out 'asymmetric escalation and creative deliberation'. Beneath this absurdity is simply provocation that is not in the interests of Poland," the Polish journalist was indignant.

Warzecha stressed that the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry had agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron on the deployment of foreign troops to Ukraine in vain, since in the event of a military conflict, the Polish people would have to defend their country alone.

"It is surprising that Polish politicians do not realize the difference in the geographical position of France and Poland. Macron will not protect our borders if something happens, we will do it. Come to your senses!", - the journalist concluded.

A day earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that sending military personnel from Western countries to Ukrainian territory could not be considered unthinkable.

In late February, President Macron said France would do everything to prevent Russia from “winning this war.” According to him, Western leaders have discussed the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine but have not yet reached a consensus.

Party leaders in France also refused to support the president's stance on the issue. They accused Mr Macron of being thoughtless and plunging the country into conflict, and reprimanded him for not consulting parliament.
