(Baonghean.vn) - In Russia, the first vertical take-off and landing aircraft has been built, individual systems have been tested - said the company Ecolibri, which developed this project.

"The company's specialists are developing the first Russian VTOL aircraft. Now the first stage of design has been completed in accordance with current aviation standards, individual systems are being tested on a static stand. The new aircraft will be equipped with a hybrid engine. The vertical take-off and landing system will use electric motors of our own design," the company said.

The press service of the Ecolibri company added that the creation of this new aircraft is aimed at compensating for the currently limited role of helicopters in passenger transportation, including in the regions of Russia.

"This product, unlike a helicopter, will not have complex mechanisms such as fairings (for adjusting the tilt and flight path) or speed reducers, which will reduce the cost of production. The VTOL aircraft will be equipped with modern Russian avionics and will be built mainly with Russian-made equipment. Therefore, in some variations it will be more cost-effective than a helicopter, especially for long routes, since the large area of \u200b\u200bthe aircraft's wings will help improve its aerodynamic characteristics," the press service explained.

Alexei Rogozin, Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of Ecolibri, said the aircraft will have a range of up to 1,200 km and a flight speed of nearly 270 km/h.

"The aircraft and electric motors we are building strictly comply with the requirements of aviation law, which ensures that the aircraft will be licensed for operation and will be practically operated for commercial and other special purposes," he added.

In the Soviet Union, VTOL aircraft were built, but only for military purposes. Specifically, there were shipborne attack aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing such as the Yak-36, various variants of the Yak-38, as well as the Yak-141, which was ahead of its time due to its combination of features.

Worldwide, companies such as Airbus, Embraer, Hyundai, and Toyota are currently involved in developing vertical take-off and landing civil aircraft projects. In Russia, such projects have been absent for quite a long time and have only recently been implemented, although plans to build a new type of VTOL aircraft have been announced./.
