Cars do not have a rear camera, what type is suitable to install?

Nowadays, rear cameras are one of the necessary safety equipment for the majority of car users, whether they are new drivers or long-time drivers.

In the US market, a rearview camera is mandatory equipment for a car model manufactured and sold here since May 2018.

However, in Vietnam, the regulation requiring cars to install rear cameras is not yet in the law.

In April 2020, the Ministry of Public Security proposed this provision when drafting the Law on Ensuring Road Traffic Order and Safety, a law that was separated when discussing amendments to the Road Traffic Law. Later, the National Assembly rejected the separation of the Road Traffic Law, so the above proposal is still "suspended".

The Vietnamese low-cost car market is developing vigorously with a variety of models, but most of the standard versions are not equipped with a rear camera. For example, KIA Soluto MT, Nissan Almera MT and CVT, Honda City E, Mitsubishi Attrage MT, Hyundai Accent MT Base, Hyundai Stargazer standard, Ford EcoSport Trend, Hyundai i10 standard...

So, for cars without a rear camera, what type of rear camera should the owner install, how much does it cost and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each type?

Below are some types of rear cameras that users can consider when wanting to install them in their cars.

Rear camera with screen mounted on dashboard

If the user only needs to install a basic rear camera with limited finances and the car does not have a central screen, then the rear camera with a screen mounted on the dashboard cannot be ignored.

This screen will be placed on the dashboard surface and the image of the rear camera will be displayed on it so that the driver can observe the rear. The installation is simple, still keeping the original entertainment system of the car. A set of screens with a rear camera ranges from 1-1.2 million VND.

If the car already has a screen, the user only needs to buy an additional camera eye to connect directly to the screen available on the car, the cost will be even cheaper with a price of only 600-800 thousand VND, optional camera eye with infrared, or auxiliary light.

This is considered the most cost-effective solution for customers. This option is usually for service drivers or those with good driving skills, who have decided to buy a really cheap car and do not want to upgrade too much.

The advantage of a rear camera set with a dashboard screen or just the rear camera is that it is cheap. Users can buy it themselves on e-commerce sites and install it themselves according to the included instructions.

However, the downside is that the display screen size is small, only 5-6 inches, the rear camera uses old CCD sensor technology, so the image transmitted to the screen will not be sharp, only displays well in daylight conditions, the display angle is quite narrow, only about 120 degrees.

With a budget of 3-5 million VND, users can completely choose a rear camera with images displayed on the Android screen.

Install a rear camera with an Android screen to increase the sharpness and viewing angle of the displayed image.

The rear camera when installed on the Android screen will provide high resolution AHD CMOS sensor, no delay when shifting in reverse, larger display angle usually 150-170 degrees, display distance measurement line can change direction according to steering angle.

Android screens are usually large in size from 9-14 inches, so the rear camera display image is also larger, making it easier for the driver to observe. Installation for Android screens is not too complicated because it is mainly a matter of plugging in a jack without having to cut or connect wires.

With this type, the cost will usually be about 3-4 times higher than the case of using a rear camera with a screen mounted on the dashboard. Android screens with basic configurations may experience freezing or slower application processing after a period of use due to configuration limitations.

Rear camera with 360 degree panoramic view

Previously, 360-degree cameras were usually only equipped on new, high-end, expensive cars, but now with the rapid change of technology, the price of a 360 camera set is still high, but people with financial resources can install this equipment on their cars.

The 360 ​​camera system not only displays images behind the car but also the surrounding areas, so this is currently the safest image display equipment.

The 360 ​​camera integrated into the Android screen is the safest solution but also the most expensive.

Customers who choose to install 360 cameras are often those who want maximum safety support, have poor driving skills, and often travel in complex and crowded traffic conditions.

The advantage of the 360 ​​camera is that it eliminates the car's blind spots, supports better parking, and also acts as a dash cam that records 4 directions as evidence in case of a collision. The camera eye is super sharp and the viewing angle is up to 180 degrees.

In return, the installation cost is the most expensive of all types of image display cameras, usually costing from 9-15 million VND, or even higher if using large screens and high-end configurations.

To choose the right type and ensure quality, users should go to auto accessory stores with a brand, reputation, specific address and clear warranty policy.
