Car warranty void if wrong gasoline is used
According to Decision 49/2011 of the Prime Minister, from the beginning of 2017, all types of cars manufactured, assembled and imported into Vietnam must meet Euro 4 emission standards instead of the current Euro 2.
Both automobile businesses and customers support the roadmap for applying this emission standard, but both sides still have concerns about fuel issues.
Users benefit too
Nearly two months after applying Euro 4 standards, Mr. Tran Tan Trung, General Director of Lien A International Joint Stock Company, the distributor of Audi cars in Vietnam, said that vehicle inspection is not difficult because the engines of all types of cars in the world have met emission standards from Euro 4 and above. For example, the car models that the company is importing and distributing all meet Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards certified by Europe.

Petrol that meets Euro 4 emission standards will have 26 times less lead content than Euro 2. |
Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia, owner of a car dealership in Ho Chi Minh City, said that Vietnam should apply higher emission standards to protect the clean environment. Gasoline that meets Euro 4 emission standards will have a lead content 26 times lower than Euro 2.
“In addition, stricter regulations on emission standards require car manufacturers and manufacturers and assemblers to invest more in technology to produce environmentally friendly products. At the same time, it creates an equal business environment and healthy competition among automobile companies, which is beneficial to consumers,” Mr. Nghia shared.
On the customer side, Mr. Duc Minh (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) said that fuels meeting Euro 4 emission standards have been introduced to the market by businesses. Specifically, since January 2017, Petrolimex has officially put into business RON 95 gasoline with emission level 3 and RON 95 gasoline with emission level 4. "Euro 4 standard cars emit cleaner emissions and operate smoothly, so consumers also benefit" - Mr. Minh said.
Still worried
Gasoline fuel that meets Euro 4 emission standards is available on the market, but shortages, substandard fuel, and lack of uniform deployment across the country are difficulties for both businesses and consumers.
A representative of a car manufacturing and assembling company said that Euro 4 emission standard vehicles simply mean that the engine exhaust gas output is cleaner, so the fuel input must also meet higher and cleaner standards. However, fuel that meets Euro 4 emission standards is not much, mainly concentrated in big cities. Not to mention that the difficult-to-control gasoline quality will force many Euro 4 cars to use Euro 2 fuel, or even lower.

Both automobile businesses and customers support the roadmap for applying this emission standard, but both sides still have concerns about fuel issues. |
“That’s why cars get sick a lot, the car company has to spend time repairing and resolving customer complaints, easily losing its reputation,” said a representative of this company. Meanwhile, some car companies have to warn customers that if they don’t use the right type of gasoline as instructed, their cars will not be covered by warranty.
Specifically, for vehicles with high emission standards Euro 4, even Euro 5, 6, manufacturers always recommend using gasoline from RON 95 or higher. However, if customers use A92 gasoline, when the vehicle has a fuel-related error, the customer will not be covered by warranty, and the customer will be responsible for the repair costs.
Further clarifying the fuel issue, Mr. Le Van Tach, an auto engineer working at Toyota Vietnam, said: "If we use lower standard fuel, not in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, the engine's life will certainly be affected, and the user will suffer."
Singapore is applying Euro 5 fuel standards; Malaysia has applied Euro 4 fuel standards since 2016; Thailand has applied Euro 4 fuel standards since 2015. Similar to Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia have applied Euro 4 since 2017. |
