Statistics from the beginning of September 2018 show that the number of imported cars from 3 countries: Thailand, Indonesia and Mexico still accounts for almost the entire amount in Vietnam.

Last week, out of a total of more than 2,264 vehicles of all kinds imported to Vietnam, there were more than 1,370 passenger cars, worth more than 32 million USD, about 679 trucks and pickups, and more than 215 specialized vehicles imported mainly from Mexico, the US, and China.

Most notably are cars imported from Thailand and Indonesia. Last week, the number of cars imported from Thailand reached nearly 1,500, and more than 462 from Indonesia.

The number of cars imported from Thailand and Indonesia to Vietnam in the first week of September has decreased quite sharply.

Of which, passenger cars from Thailand to Vietnam reached more than 800 units, a decrease of more than 460 units compared to last week; Thai pickup trucks reached more than 678 units, a decrease of nearly 200 units compared to last week.

Cars with less than 9 seats imported from Indonesia to Vietnam this week reached 426 units, a decrease of nearly 300 units compared to last week.

Compared to the last week of August, the total number of cars from Thailand and Indonesia in the first week of September decreased by more than 760 units. However, this week, Mexico imported more than 200 specialized vehicles. This is also the largest import of specialized vehicles from Mexico since the previous import of cars to Vietnam.

However, compared to the first week of last month, the number of imported cars to Vietnam and cars from Thailand and Indonesia in the first week of September increased quite sharply.

Specifically, the total number of imported cars in the first week of September increased by nearly 1,000 units compared to the first week of August (the imported number only reached 1,300 units).

The total number of Thai and Indonesian cars (including passenger cars from Thailand, Indonesia and Thai pickup trucks) imported to Vietnam in the first week of September reached more than 1,900 units, while in the first week of September, the number of cars imported from the two countries only reached more than 1,000 units.

Thus, the number of imported cars from the two markets above increased by nearly 900 units compared to the same period last month.

According to the explanation of some car dealers in Hanoi, the decrease in imported cars in the first week of each month is completely normal because import contracts and bills of lading often increase to Vietnam more in the middle or last week of each month.

Many dealers confirm that the number of imported cars will soon increase again because starting from September 2018, the year-end business cycle increases sharply, forcing manufacturers and dealers to increase car imports to Vietnam.
