On April 9, China's Aerospace Knowledge magazine published a cover image of the Xian H-20 strategic bomber under development. This is a sign that the Chinese military has completed the basic design of this bomber line, ready to enter the research and manufacturing phase.
Beijing confirmed the development of the H-20 in 2016, but no specifications have been released. Pentagon experts believe the H-20 will incorporate many technologies from the J-20 fifth-generation fighter project, including stealth capabilities. It can carry both conventional and nuclear weapons.
The aircraft is expected to enter service in the mid-2020s, replacing the H-6 squadrons, a copy of the Soviet Tu-16 bomber.
