US President Barack Obama continuously posts information on Twitter to prove the achievements he has made during his two terms.

"As we look to the future, I want to take a moment to look back at the remarkable progress you have made possible over the past eight years," CNN quoted Obama's opening line on Twitter on January 2.

The US president cited "the longest streak of job growth in our history", and "after decades of rising health care costs, almost every American now has access to affordable healthcare".

Mr Obama also highlighted progress towards green energy, ending international conflicts and allowing same-sex marriage.

"It has been the privilege of my life to serve as your president. I look forward to serving alongside you as a citizen of the United States. Happy New Year to everyone," Obama concluded his tweets.

President Obama's tweets came after Sean Spicer, who is set to become White House press secretary, revealed that US President-elect Donald Trump would immediately "repeal many of the regulations and actions of the current administration over the past 8 years that have reduced economic growth and jobs".

Mr Trump has long criticized Mr Obama's moves on immigration, energy regulation and foreign policy.

Obama's Twitter account, @POTUS, will be handed over to Trump after he leaves the White House. Obama is scheduled to deliver his final speech in his hometown of Chicago to defend his legacy. The White House will release details of the event today (January 3).
