The AP news agency, citing the White House, said President Obama will travel to Orlando to pay his respects and call for unity to the victims of the June 12 shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub. The White House did not release details of Obama’s schedule, but said he would cancel his June 16 plans, which were scheduled to support Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
On June 13, President Barack Obama called the shooting that killed 49 people and injured more than 50 at a gay nightclub an act of terror and hatred.
The US President specifically emphasized that this is "a sad day" for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. "The shooter targeted a nightclub where people gathered with friends, to dance, to sing, to live," he said. "This is a place of unity and a place of strength, where people come together to raise awareness, to speak their minds and to defend their civil rights."
