The former US president walked with ease, always smiling, sometimes even dancing to spread a sense of joy. He visited each room, handing out gifts to the children, encouraging their parents, and boosting the morale of the medical team.
Seeing the former president, parents and hundreds of doctors and nurses were all excited and enthusiastic. They shouted and sang along with former President Obama as he led the way to "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".
On Twitter, the former US president wrote: "Merry Christmas and a happy holiday with the children, families and wonderful staff at Children's National Medical Center. And thank you for encouraging me to be your Santa Claus."
According toABC News, a video recording Mr. Obama's surprise visit was posted by the hospital on Twitter and attracted more than one million views within just three hours.
