The meeting between President Obama and President-elect Trump took place two days after Trump defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States. The meeting focused on the transition of power.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, President Obama said: “We discussed many issues, including the structure of the White House, domestic and foreign policy. My top priority over the next two months is to facilitate a transition that ensures the President-elect will be successful. I believe it is important for all of us, regardless of party or political preferences, to come together and work together to address the challenges we face. We will do everything we can to help the new President succeed because the success of the new President will be the success of the country.”

President-elect Trump thanked President Obama for the meeting and said that although the meeting was scheduled to last 10 minutes, it actually lasted more than an hour and a half.

“We discussed many situations, both positive and negative. I look forward to working with President Obama and receiving his advice. It was an honor to meet him, and I look forward to working with President Obama many times in the future,” Trump said.

On the same day, new President Trump also met with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate President Mitch McConnell.
