Duterte allows killing if son is drug dealer

The Philippine president says he will order police to kill his son if he is caught in the drug trade.

Paolo Duterte, 42, appeared before a senate hearing this month to deny allegations by an opposition politician that he was part of a gang that helped smuggle large quantities of crystal methamphetamine from China.

"I said before giving the order: 'If I have children involved in drug trafficking, kill them so that people will not have anything to say'," the Telegraph quoted Mr. Duterte as saying yesterday to government employees at the presidential palace in Manila.

"So I told Pulong (Paolo's nickname): I have ordered you to be killed if you are caught red-handed. And I will protect the police to kill you."

Rodrigo Duterte, 72, won the presidency with a promise of an unprecedented campaign to kill up to 100,000 drug criminals.to eliminate illegal drug trafficking in society.

Since Mr Duterte took office in mid-last year, more than 3,800 people have been killed in police anti-drug operations. President Duterte has repeatedly insisted that he has never ordered police to do anything illegal and that they are only allowed to kill in self-defence.

Paolo Duterte, vice mayor of Davao City, as well asManases Carpio, the President's son-in-law, has denied all charges related to the transport of $125 million worth of drugs from China to the Philippines.
