Kim Jong-un wants to escape his father's shadow
(Baonghean.vn) - UPI news agency quoted South Korean experts as saying that North Korea's decision to change the founding date of the Korean People's Army (KPA) is a sign that leader Kim Jong-un wants to escape the "shadow" of his predecessors by enhancing his military prestige.

The above comment was made after North Korean state media reported that Pyongyang was changing the founding date of the KPA from April 25 to February 8.
Professor Kim Yong-hyun, who specializes in North Korean affairs at Dongguk University in Seoul, said: “It seems that Kim Jong-un is trying to build his own independent regime rather than relying on the legacy left in the past as well as the importance of the resistance against Japanese imperialism.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Chung Sung-jang, director of unification strategy research at South Korea's Sejong Institute, commented that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, more importantly, wants to draw attention to his achievements in advancing his country's nuclear weapons program. The difference lies in his confidence that he has achieved full nuclear capability.
According to this expert, Mr. Kim has emphasized the importance of strategic weapons since taking power./.
