Kim Jong-un inspects test of new anti-aircraft weapon

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the test of a new guided air defense weapon system and ordered its mass production and deployment to boost its capabilities.

Mr Kim watched the "successful test" organized by the Academy of National Defense Science, KCNA reported today, without revealing the time and location.

Kim said the weapons system's capabilities have been upgraded compared to last year in terms of effectiveness in detecting and tracking targets and precision strikes, while speaking to Korean People's Army and institute officials.

Mr Kim oversaw the testing of an anti-aircraft guided weapons system last April and the latest test appeared to focus on improving the capabilities of surface-to-air guided missiles deployed last year.

"Some of the system's flaws discovered last year have passed the test perfectly," Kim said. "The weapon system, whose performance has been thoroughly verified, should be mass-produced and deployed across the country, as numerous as forests, to destroy the enemy's wild dream of dominating the skies, demonstrating the ultimate weapon power in the air."

Mr. Kim also stressed that North Korea needs to pursue the development of a "new generation" of guided air defense weapons.
