According to Decision No. 372 - QDNS/TW dated October 12, 2016 of the Politburo signed by Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat Dinh The Huynh, Mr. Nguyen The Ky, member of the Party Central Committee, General Director of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) was assigned to concurrently hold the position of Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts for the 2016 - 2021 term.

Mr. Nguyen The Ky was born in 1960, hometown Nghe An province. Graduated from the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi University in 1981. Academic title and degree: Associate Professor - Doctor.

Mr. Nguyen The Ky has held the following positions: Deputy Director of Nghe An Provincial Radio and Television Station; Editor-in-Chief of Nghe An Newspaper; Deputy Head of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; Secretary of Nam Dan District Party Committee, Nghe An Province; Head of the Press and Publishing Department under the Central Propaganda Department; Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department.

At the 12th Party Congress in January 2016, Mr. Nguyen The Ky was elected as a member of the 12th Central Executive Committee.

On March 8, 2016, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed Decision No. 367/QD-TTg on the transfer and appointment of Mr. Nguyen The Ky, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, to hold the position of General Director of the Voice of Vietnam (replacing Mr. Nguyen Dang Tien).

Mr. Nguyen The Ky is the 6th General Director of VOV since 1945, after Messrs. Tran Lam, Phan Quang, Tran Mai Hanh, Vu Van Hien and Nguyen Dang Tien.
