Putin signs agreement with Vietnam on migrant labor.

On November 2nd, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Vietnam concerning temporary employment for citizens of both countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Vietnam at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang starting November 12 (Source: VNA).

Previously, this agreement had also been ratified by the State Duma (Lower House) and the Federation Council (Upper House) of Russia.

The agreement was signed by the two countries on October 27, 2008, in Moscow. This document aims to manage migrant workers in accordance with the number and composition of workers and their socio-economic development interests in both countries.

The document also establishes an international legal framework governing the labor activities of Russian citizens in Vietnam and Vietnamese workers in Russia.

Specifically, the agreement stipulates the procedures and principles of migrant labor, issues concerning social and medical care, taxation, as well as the immigration and travel regimes for citizens of both countries. In particular, the agreement clearly defines the legal status of migrant workers: ensuring their rights and freedoms, legal protection, and personal safety under the laws of the host country as foreign citizens.

The document was signed and issued by Russia just days before President Putin's official visit to Vietnam.
