Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan withdrew and did not run for VFF President.
VFF Permanent Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan will withdraw and not run for the position of President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for the 8th term.
Sources said that Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan will not run for the position of President of VFF term VIII. This is surprising information, because Mr. Tuan is a strong candidate for the position of President in the next term.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan only participated in the election for the position of Vice President in charge of professional affairs in the new term. This is the position Mr. Tuan has held at VFF since 2014 until now.

During his time as Permanent Vice President, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan also significantly raised the position of Vietnamese football with AFC and FIFA. From 2014 to present, Vietnam has had representatives at the world tournament as the U20 team and the men's futsal team, with the U23 Vietnam team winning the runner-up position in Asia 2018.
Notably, in 2018, Vietnamese football had 6 teams participating in the Asian tournament including U19, U23, U16, women's team, men's futsal team and national team.
After VFF Permanent Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan withdrew, the race for the VFF President position only had two candidates: journalist Nguyen Cong Khe - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thanh Nien Media Group and Mr. Can Van Nghia - Director of the National Sports Complex.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is looking for more talented people to contribute to Vietnamese football in the coming time. Therefore, it is likely that the position of VFF President for the new term will have more candidates in the coming time.
Currently, VFF is still completing personnel work for the 8th Congress. The Congress was scheduled to be held in early 2018, but has been repeatedly postponed due to delayed preparations and will try to take place in August 2018.
