After no longer being Vice Chairman of Hau Giang province, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh asked the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee for a month's leave to treat his illness.

On the afternoon of August 29, Mr. Tran Cong Chanh -Secretary of Hau Giang Provincial Party Committee -said,Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh (Provincial Party Committee member, former Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee)He has been on medical leave for nearly a month. "I don't know what illness Mr. Thanh has and where he is being treated. When his leave ends, the province will follow the Central Government's instructions," said Mr. Chanh.

According to Mr. Chanh,so farHau Giang Provincial Party Committeehas not received any conclusion or notification from the Central Government regarding the case of Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh."Therefore, the Provincial Party Standing Committee cannot assign or arrange work for him yet," said Mr. Chanh.

A leader of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee said that for more than a month, when he was not re-elected as Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Thanh did not come to this agency. Previously, Mr. Thanh also reported sick and was absent from the meeting of the People's Council of Hau Giang province, term IX (2016-2021), after requesting not to be re-elected as Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh was the General Director and then Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC). In 2013, he was dismissed after more than 4 years holding key leadership positions at this Corporation. The consolidated balance sheet in the annual report shows that PVC's accumulated loss by the end of 2013 was more than 3,000 billion VND.

After leaving the oil and gas industry, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh was transferred to many positions in the Ministry of Industry and Trade before holding the position of Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee in 2015.

In response to this information, the Central Party Office requested the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee to direct relevant agencies to clarify the loss of more than VND 3,000 billion (2011-2013) at PVC; direct the handling of organizations and individuals who violated regulations in granting public license plates, and revoke public license plates (blue plates) that were granted and used in violation of regulations.

In mid-July, the National Election Council met and decided to revoke the status of National Assembly delegate of the 14th term for Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh.

The Department of Investigation Police on Economic Crimes and Corruption (C46) of the Ministry of Public Security has launched an investigation into the loss at PCV during Mr. Thanh's leadership.
