Photos and videos released by state prison officials on August 4 show da Silva trying to disguise himself as a girl: wearing a silicone mask, a wig, tight jeans and a pink shirt.
He is one of the bosses of the Red Command, one of Brazil's most powerful criminal organizations, which controls drug trafficking in the area around Rio.
Da Silva was later transferred to a maximum security prison, where he will face punishment, officials said.
