US President Donald Trump believes that Russia and Iran's involvement in the Syrian war was due to his predecessor Barack Obama.

"We inherited problems all over the world, America showed weakness and didn't cross the 'red line.' If we crossed the 'red line,' Russia and Iran wouldn't have gone into Syria, but he (Obama) said: 'Don't do this, don't ever cross the red line.' They crossed it, and he didn't do anything, so Russia went into Syria, and Iran went into Syria," Trump told supporters at a rally in Florida.

He did not explain what the “red line” was referring to. The US issued an ultimatum to Syria in 2013, suspecting the Syrian government of using chemical weapons and threatening to use force.

War was then averted after Russia proposed a mechanism to destroy chemical weapons in Syria, which worked successfully.

Trump also touched on his policy, which he said was different from that of the previous administration. He spoke of the 59 “terrific missiles” that were launched into Syria on April 7 in response to the Syrian government’s use of chemical weapons.
