According to information from the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association, on August 4, the Association held the 5th National Congress of Delegates for the 2018 - 2023 term.
At this congress, Mr. Vu Huy Hoang, formerly a member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Industry and Trade, was no longer the Chairman of the Association.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung was elected by the Congress as Chairman of the Association for the 2018-2023 term with 100% confidence. In addition, the Association also elected Vice Chairmen, General Secretary and the Central Standing Committee of the Association for the 2018-2023 term.
The Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association was established in 1991 on the basis of merging the Vietnam - West Germany Friendship Association and the Vietnam - East Germany Friendship Association which were established earlier.
On November 3, 2012, the 4th National Congress of Delegates for the 2012-2017 term elected the Executive Committee of the Association with 63 members, of which Mr. Vu Huy Hoang, then a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Minister of Industry and Trade, was the Chairman of the Association.
In early 2017, in Document No. 106/QD-TTg dated January 24, 2017, the Prime Minister decided to discipline Mr. Vu Huy Hoang by removing his status as former Minister of Industry and Trade for the 2011-2016 term due to violations in personnel work when holding the position of Minister of Industry and Trade for the 2011-2016 term, and the Central Party Secretariat disciplined him in Decision No. 388-QDNS/TW dated November 3, 2016.
Previously, Mr. Vu Huy Hoang was disciplined by the National Assembly Standing Committee by removing his status as former Minister of Industry and Trade for the 2011-2016 term due to violations in personnel work when holding the position of Minister during this term. and the Central Party Secretariat disciplined him in Decision No. 388-QDNS/TW dated November 3, 2016.
One of the officials appointed by former Minister Vu Huy Hoang while in office was Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, who had fled to Germany before returning home to surrender and appeared in court in the recent case at PVC Corporation.
