Mr. Zelensky worries that the US will decide Ukraine's fate behind its back.
“I am very confident that the United States will not do this, although I am not sure that this has never happened before,” said Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

According to TASS news agency, Mr. Zelensky said that the US and some European allies could decide the fate of Ukraine without consulting this country.
“We don’t want that to happen behind Ukraine’s back,” he told Bloomberg. “I’m very confident that the United States will not do that, although I’m not sure that it hasn’t happened before. I’m not just talking about the United States here, but also about some of our European partners.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump has tasked his special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, to end the conflict in Ukraine within 100 days. The source said that reaching a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a much bigger challenge than Trump thought when he said during the campaign that, if elected, he would end the conflict before taking office.
On January 7, Mr. Trump acknowledged that resolving the Ukraine conflict could take longer than 24 hours—the time he had said would be enough during his campaign. Kellogg said he wanted to reach a deal within 100 days.
On January 21, Mr. Trump did not rule out the possibility that the US could completely stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and also stated that he was ready to meet the Russian President “at any time.” At the same time, the new US leader said that sanctions against Russia could be tightened if the country did not agree to an agreement on Ukraine.
Putin said earlier that Moscow was ready to negotiate on Ukraine with the new US administration, but signaled that it was important to eliminate the root causes of the crisis. He reiterated that Russia noted statements by Trump and his team about their desire to restore communications and make every effort to prevent World War III.
