Imported cars from Indonesia are about to return to the Vietnamese market.
Indonesia's Deputy Trade Minister said that it will soon issue Type Approval (VTA) certificates for cars exported to Vietnam.
The Indonesian government is planning to announce the issuance of vehicle type approval (VTA) certificates in an effort to export cars to Vietnam.
"With this adjustment, imported cars from Indonesia will soon return to Vietnam," Mr. Oke Nurwan - Deputy Minister of Trade of Indonesia announced.

Decree 116 issued by the Vietnamese Government has caused the export of completely built-up cars from Indonesia to Vietnam to stagnate since the beginning of 2018 until now, the newspaperThe Jakarta Postwrite.
In a letter sent to the Indonesian Ministry of Industry on January 27, the Association of Indonesian Automobile Manufacturers said four manufacturers, Toyota, Suzuki, Daihatsu and Hino, had stopped exporting 9,337 vehicles to Vietnam. The vehicles were expected to be produced between December 2017 and March 2018.
Last year, Indonesia exported 38,832 complete cars worth 718 million USD to Vietnam.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Head of the Policy Subcommittee of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association, once said that it is likely that in about 2-3 months, Indonesia will provide Type Approval certificates for vehicles exported to Vietnam. After another 2-3 months of waiting for inspection, it will take 5-6 months for imported Indonesian vehicles to be on the market.
Before Indonesia, the Thai government agreed to issue type approval certificates for vehicles exported to Vietnam, paving the way for imported vehicles from this country to return to the market. The first batch of more than 2,000 Honda vehicles to enjoy 0% import tax just arrived at Ho Chi Minh City port yesterday (March 1). This batch of vehicles is expected to be delivered to customers from the end of April.
The reason why Thailand and Indonesia have difficulty in granting VTA certification is because these two countries apply the right-hand drive type for domestic cars. Japan is similar, but it is likely that this country will not grant VTA certification to Vietnam, blocking the way for Toyota Land Cruiser and all Lexus products.
