Pakistan accused of shelling Indian outposts
On October 4, the Indian army said that the Pakistani army fired artillery at Indian outposts and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC).
According to India, this is the 6th time in the past 36 hours that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire in this area. This action by Pakistan has forced India to respond.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani military said its soldiers had retaliated against the first firing from India. Earlier, on October 3, the two sides also exchanged fire for 5 hours in the Line of Control area.
The de facto border of the 720km-long Line of Control divides the Himalayan region of Kashmir into two parts controlled by India and Pakistan, but both countries claim sovereignty over the entire Kashmir region.
Despite the 2003 ceasefire agreement, there have been ongoing gunfights between border guards from both countries in the area, with both sides accusing each other of provoking the first act.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have increased following a deadly attack in the Uri area of India's Jammu and Kashmir state that killed 18 Indian soldiers.
Initial investigations conducted by India have identified one of the attackers in Uri as Hafiz Ahmed, who hails from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
The situation became more serious after India announced that its army had conducted raids on terrorist bases across the Line of Control in the early morning of September 29, causing heavy casualties.
In the following days, there were consecutive hours-long gun battles on the Line of Control between Indian and Pakistani soldiers.
