Speaking to jubilant supporters in his stronghold of Lahore, Sharif said: “We should thank Allah for giving the PML-N another opportunity to serve you and Pakistan.”

Meanwhile, the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party of cricket star and politician Imran Khan conceded defeat to its opponent PML-N early on May 12.
Speaking to the private television channel Geo TV, PTI leader Assad Omar said: “They have emerged as the biggest party. I want to congratulate them.”
Preliminary election results on the night of May 11th showed the PML-N leading in the general election with 115 seats in Parliament, followed by the PTI with 37 seats, while the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) came in third with 33 seats, mainly in the southern province of Sindh.
Based on these results, it is unlikely that any party will win a majority of 172 seats to form a government on its own.
