On May 23, Pakistan summoned the US Ambassador to the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protest the US airstrikes in the southwestern region of Pakistan.

Mr. Fatemi said that the airstrikes were a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, a provision of the United Nations Charter that guarantees the inviolability of the territory of member states.
Pakistan stressed that such actions could impact the efforts of the Quartet to promote peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
Referring to the coordination between the two countries in counter-terrorism, Mr. Fatemi said that Pakistan and the US are closely coordinating in the fight against the menace of terrorism and this cooperation needs to be maintained.
US President Barack Obama confirmed on May 23 that Taliban leader in Afghanistan Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in an airstrike last weekend in a small town in Pakistan's Balochistan province./.
