“Allowing the creation of an area in the Bois de Vincennes park for naturists is part of our open vision for the use of Paris' public spaces,” Penelope Komites, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of parks, explained to AFP.
This corner of the park for "naked" people is just a test for now: open from August 31 to October 15, from 8am to 7:30pm.
Authorities will place signs in the Bois de Vincennes park to alert walkers to what is happening (or unfolding) in a 7,300-square-meter clearing near the park's bird sanctuary.
The managers pledged to have “zero tolerance” for those who take advantage of this “paradise” to show off their bodies (in the sick sense), in order to protect true naturists.
“It is a joy, a freedom for naturism. It shows the openness of the city and will help people change their attitudes towards nudity, towards our values and respect for nature,” said Julien Claude-Penegry, a member of the Paris Naturist Association.
Mr Julien estimates that thousands of people (who prefer to go natural) in the area will flock to Bois de Vincennes park. He himself has been in the habit of going naked for more than 20 years.
Parisians already have a swimming pool where they can go nude three times a week. There are around 460 areas across France that cater to people who hate clothes, including campsites and beaches.
More than 2.6 million French people have the coolest taste possible, according to the France 4 Naturism association.
