Petr Cech receives death threats after joining Arsenal

June 30, 2015 08:52

Twitter was flooded with curses aimed at the Czech goalkeeper after he left Chelsea to join arch-rivals Arsenal.

"It's a fucking shame to see Cech sign (for Arsenal). I hope you have brain damage and your kids get sick. I'll bring my SR-25 air rifle to Stamford Bridge when you come to play for Arsenal. It would be great to see you bleed on the pitch," one user wrote.

Another fan threatened to kill Cech's family, tweeting: "Say goodbye to your family before they go to sleep, because tomorrow you won't see them again, stupid snake."

However, because of these threats, the accounts of the two extremists were deleted by Twitter.

Cech had already set his sights on Arsenal last week after passing a medical and agreeing a four-year deal worth $158,000 a week. The 33-year-old goalkeeper's transfer fee was also agreed at $17 million, but the move was only completed after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich gave the green light for Cech to join Arsenal - something Mourinho did not want.

During his 11 years at Chelsea, Cech was a hero to the fans, thanks to his huge contributions to the club's success during this period. However, a part of Chelsea fans were still furious when they heard that Cech had joined rival team Arsenal.

"Snake" and "traitor" are the common words that Chelsea fans have used to insult and curse Cech since yesterday.

"You're a bloody snake, can't believe you're going to Arsenal. Really wish Stephen Hunt had taken your life," one tweet read, recalling the incident in which Reading player Stephen Hunt left Cech with a traumatic brain injury in a collision in 2006 that forced the goalkeeper to wear a head guard.

Recalling the incident when Cech was almost killed by Hunt, another fan wrote: "Hopefully Chelsea will sign Arda Turan this summer, so he can break Cech's skull again." Turan, currently on the payroll of Atletico Madrid and known for his fierce playing style, is being linked with a transfer to Chelsea.

Cech suffered a traumatic brain injury from a collision with Stephen Hunt in 2006.

"Cech cannot be bigger than our team. We would be foolish to defend him. Cech is a traitor, a snake. There is no other way but to kick him out," one fan wrote.

Barring any major surprises, Cech's first official match with Arsenal will likely be the London derby against his former club Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 2 at Wembley Stadium. Arsenal came to the match as the winners of the FA Cup last season, while Chelsea were the Premier League champions.
