Petr Cech received death threats after joining Arsenal.

Twitter was flooded with curses directed at the Czech goalkeeper after he left Chelsea to join their arch-rivals Arsenal.

"It's awful to see Cech sign (with Arsenal). I hope you lose your mind and your children all get seriously ill. I'll bring my SR-25 air rifle to Stamford Bridge when you come to play for Arsenal. It would be great to see you bleed on the pitch," one user wrote.

Another fanatical fan threatened to kill Cech's family with the tweet: "Say goodbye to your family one last time before they go to sleep, because tomorrow you won't see them anymore, you stupid snake."

However, because of these threats, the accounts of the two extremists were deleted by Twitter.

Cech had actually put one foot into an Arsenal deal last week when he passed his medical and agreed on a four-year contract worth $158,000 a week. The transfer fee for the 33-year-old goalkeeper was also initially set at $17 million by both clubs. However, the transfer was only finalized after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich gave the green light for Cech to move to Arsenal – something manager Mourinho did not want.

During his 11 years of service to Chelsea, Cech was a hero in the hearts of the fans, for his immense contributions to the club's success during that period. However, a section of Chelsea supporters were still outraged when they heard that Cech had joined rival team Arsenal.

"The snake" and "traitor" are common words Chelsea fans have been using to insult and curse Cech since yesterday.

"You're a vile snake, I can't believe you're at Arsenal. I really wish Stephen Hunt had killed you," one tweet recalled the incident in 2006 when Reading player Stephen Hunt caused Cech to suffer a traumatic brain injury in a collision, leaving the goalkeeper to wear a head protection helmet in subsequent matches.

Recalling the incident where Cech was nearly killed by Hunt years ago, another fan wrote: "Hopefully Chelsea will sign Arda Turan this summer, so he can smash Cech's skull again." Turan, currently on the books of Atletico Madrid and known for his aggressive style of play, is being linked with a move to Chelsea.

"Cech can't be bigger than our team. We'd be foolish to defend him. Cech is a traitor, a snake. There's no other way than to get rid of him," one fan wrote.

Unless there are any major surprises, Cech's official debut with Arsenal will most likely be the London derby against his former club Chelsea in the FA Community Shield on August 2nd at Wembley Stadium. Arsenal will enter this match as the FA Cup winners from last season, while Chelsea are the Premier League champions.
