(Baonghean.vn) - On March 19, Lieutenant Colonel Mai Chien Thang, Deputy Chief of Vinh City Police, said that the unit is currently holding 11 individuals in custody for investigation into gambling activities.

According to investigators, prior to the 2015 Lunar New Year, Vinh City Police detectives discovered a large-scale, sophisticated professional gambling ring operating in the area. The gamblers constantly changed locations to avoid detection and employed vigilant guards whenever they gambled.

The city police leadership launched a special investigation, code-named 315B, to dismantle the operation. Based on collected evidence, police identified Cao Thi Doa (born in 1974, residing in Dong Vinh) as the ringleader, organizing gambling dens. Investigators repeatedly spotted individuals suspected of gambling, but found it difficult to break in because the gambling dens often chose locations near dead-end streets, rivers, or streams, and maintained secure doors and fences.

After a period of surveillance, at 2 PM on March 13th, more than a dozen gamblers were discovered gambling at the single-story house of Ms. Pham Thi Hai in Hung Dong commune (Ms. Hai is Doa's mother). The special task force decided to "cast the net," and 15 criminal police officers were ordered to surround the house and wait for an opportunity.

At 5:30 PM on March 13th, after more than three hours of surveillance, upon seeing someone open the door and come out of the house, the police were immediately ordered to raid and apprehend the gamblers. Ten gamblers were arrested on the spot, including: Cao Thi Doa (born 1974, residing in Dong Vinh Ward, Vinh City, the organizer of the gambling); Le Dinh Van (born 1980, residing in Hung Dong Commune); Vo Van An (born 1978, residing in Hung Chinh Commune); Nguyen Van Nhuong (born 1984, residing in Hung Dong Commune); Do Chi Quan (born 1992, residing in Le Loi Ward, Vinh City); Tran Van Thinh (born 1968, residing in Dong Vinh Ward); Tran Thi Binh (born 1980, residing in Can Loc, Ha Tinh Province); Pham Thi Chau (born 1968, residing in Nghi Phu, Vinh City); Nguyen Thi Dung (born 1974, residing in Hung Dong Commune). Le Ngoc Nga (born in 1965, residing in Vinh City).

The evidence seized from the gambling table and on the suspects included 111,800,000 VND, a set of bowls and plates used for shaking the dice, and several mobile phones. Two gamblers managed to escape. On March 17th, Bui Quang Thanh (born in 1993, residing in Nghi Phu commune) surrendered. This brings the total number of gamblers detained in this case to 11.

The suspects confessed that they paid Cao Thi Doa a fee of 100,000 to 300,000 VND each time they entered. The gamblers bet against each other using the dice-shaking method with varying stakes, ranging from around 1 million VND per round.

According to Colonel Mai Chien Thang, among these individuals, Cao Thi Doa is being investigated for gambling and organizing gambling activities. The remaining individuals are being investigated for gambling offenses. The investigating agency is finalizing the indictment documents.

Earlier, on the afternoon of February 10th, Vinh City Police also dismantled a large gambling den in Doi Cung ward, seizing over 200 million VND. Seven individuals have been prosecuted.
