The Telegraph reported on April 3 that a group of sponsors for the Winter Asian Games (Olympics) taking place in South Korea next year mistakenly landed in the North Korean capital Pyongyang.

According to the news site Around the Rings, the pilot of the plane carrying the delegation representing the sponsors of the Olympics, which will take place in Pyeongchang (South Korea) in 2018, made a mistake when entering the flight plan into the plane's navigation system.

The mistake caused the plane to veer off course north, to the North Korean capital Pyongyang, about 400km from its intended destination. The plane was carrying eight passengers from Beijing to South Korea to survey the site.

Despite going in the wrong direction, air traffic controllers in Pyongyang allowed the plane to land. The plane was then asked to move to a separate area of the airport.

“We landed on the runway, and then the pilot announced that we had arrived at the wrong location. We were very scared of what might happen,” a member of the delegation recalled. “He told us to sit still and calm down. A flight attendant opened the door and we saw armed men in military uniform standing in front of the plane.”

With the help of an interpreter, the pilot apologized for the incident. Passengers were asked to disembark for baggage check.

After checking and seeing that the belongings were full of Olympic badges, North Korean soldiers believed that the plane had accidentally landed at the wrong location and allowed the plane to fly back to South Korea./.
