Prisoner stabbed and injured prison guard, sentenced to 2 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of October 28, the Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of the case of intentional injury against Huynh Thanh Long (born 1989, from Bac Lieu province).

Huynh Thanh Long is a prisoner serving a life sentence at Prison No. 3 - Ministry of Public Security (located in Nghia Dung commune, Tan Ky) for murder.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, on the morning of June 23, 2015, Huynh Thanh Long was assigned to work at the fake eyelash workshop but did not comply. Long went to see the prison officer Le Ngoc Quynh to explain the reason. Seeing Quynh talking to the prison officer Phan Phi Long, Huynh Thanh Long said: "Officer Long, go somewhere else so I can talk to officer Quynh". Prison officer Phan Phi Long asked Huynh Thanh Long to sit down and talk properly.

Long told the prison officer Quynh: "Right now my mind is not clear. When I am clear I will work." The prison officer explained but Long did not listen and went back to the workshop. Mr. Quynh went into the workshop and told Long that if he did not want to work, he should put on his shirt and go back to the camp to solve the problem. Long put on his shirt and went to the technical table to get a pair of scissors, then went to the corner of the wall to get a neon light bulb. After that, he broke the neon light bulb in half and ran over, using the sharp end of the broken piece to stab the prison officer Pham Phi Long in the hand, injuring both of his hands.

After injuring the prison guard, Long ran into the workshop, chased everyone out, and then continued to pull out another neon light to defend himself. After a period of education and persuasion, Huynh Thanh Long dropped the weapon and went to the sub-camp to make a record of the violation. The results of the provincial forensic center's examination showed that Pham Phi Long suffered a 1% health damage.

In 2004, Huynh Thanh Long was sent to a reformatory school. In the same year, Long was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the People's Court of Ca Mau province for extortion. In 2007, Long and a friend in prison used a knife to stab a local to death due to a minor dispute and were sentenced to life in prison. In 2013, while serving his sentence at Prison No. 3, Long and 7 other prisoners arrested a prison officer to pressure him into transferring him to serve his sentence at a prison near his home. During his rehabilitation and detention at Prison No. 3, prisoner Huynh Thanh Long did not comply with prison regulations and frequently violated discipline.

Considering that the defendant committed a dangerous recidivism, his behavior was hooliganism, and he used a dangerous weapon... the panel sentenced Huynh Thanh Long to 2 years in prison. Combined with the sentences he is currently serving, Huynh Thanh Long must serve life in prison.
