On April 25, 2001, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 62/2001/QD-TTg renaming Vinh Pedagogical University to Vinh University. After 10 years since the renaming, Vinh University has made strong progress, undergoing comprehensive and solid reforms in all fields, and has affirmed its role as a center of science and education for the North Central region and the whole country.

After 10 years since the renaming, Vinh University has made strong progress, undergoing comprehensive and solid reforms in all fields, and has affirmed its role as a center of science and education for the North Central region and the whole country.
Vinh University is the first university in the country to be allowed by the Government to implement a model of transitioning from single-discipline to multi-disciplinary training, initiating a trend of innovation in Vietnamese higher education to meet the country's human resource training needs.

Since 2001, in addition to continuing to maintain, develop, and improve teacher training programs, Vinh University has expanded and developed dozens of non-pedagogical majors in the fields of economics, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, construction, electronics and telecommunications, information technology, etc.
To date, the university has offered training at various levels and in different fields, including 10 doctoral programs, 28 master's programs, and 43 engineering and bachelor's degree programs. In addition, it provides high school education in 5 specialized subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, and English). Currently, the university has approximately 34,000 students and trainees, a 50% increase compared to 2001.
Aiming to improve the quality of education, from the 2007-2008 academic year, the school shifted its training method from a semester-based system to a credit-based system, marking the school's integration with the global higher education system.
The admissions process has undergone significant improvements, ensuring seriousness, fairness, objectivity, and quality. Training programs are developed in two directions: research-based and applied professional training, with a total of 2,714 detailed course outlines. The training programs are designed to be easily adjustable and updated, with high adaptability to the demands of development and international integration. Vinh University is also one of the 10 universities recognized by the National Accreditation Council as meeting quality accreditation standards.
Alongside its training activities, Vinh University's scientific and technological activities have seen strong development in both quantity and quality. Over the past 10 years, the university's staff has completed 24 state-level projects, 203 ministerial-level projects, and 1,857 institutional-level projects.
During the period 2001-2011, the school submitted 91 student research projects at various levels, including 88 projects that won awards at the ministerial level and 25 projects that won the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (VIFOTEC). The school also organized 102 scientific conferences and seminars at the school, regional, national, and international levels.
To date, more than 1,000 students from Thailand, China, Laos, and other countries have graduated from undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Vinh University. Currently, there are over 300 foreign students studying at the university. The university has collaborated in training, scientific research, and staff development with over 40 higher education institutions and scientific organizations both domestically and internationally, including the USA, Germany, Poland, Russia, France, New Zealand, Japan, China, Romania, and South Korea.
Thanks to this, the school has built a staff of 944 officials and employees, a 73% increase compared to 2001, with a balanced structure and high qualifications. Of the 642 lecturers, there are 54 professors and associate professors, 4 senior lecturers, 117 PhDs, 328 masters, and 133 principal lecturers. The school has mobilized all resources, both domestic and international, to accelerate the construction of infrastructure, invest in and upgrade equipment, and meet the requirements of multidisciplinary training.
After 10 years since its renaming, Vinh University has trained and nurtured tens of thousands of engineers, bachelors, and educational administrators, contributing to the goal of raising the intellectual level of the population, training human resources, and cultivating talents for the North Central provinces and the whole country. Currently, the university is focusing on building Vinh University into a center for scientific research, application, and technology transfer, serving the socio-economic development of the North Central region and the whole country, with the vision of becoming a key university by 2020, with several academic disciplines meeting international standards.
