(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, April 19th, the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference on the implementation of the 2012 summer-autumn crop production. Mr. Nguyen Tho Canh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, presided over the conference.
This year's summer-autumn crop season is predicted to take place under complex and unpredictable weather conditions, with a high risk of pests and diseases. The season requires early harvesting to avoid flooding, while the spring rice crop can be harvested as early as May 25th and as late as June 15th in areas where sowing is done and cold weather occurs, resulting in poor growth and development of early-season rice.
At the conference, after listening to the delegates' discussions, Comrade Nguyen Tho Canh concluded: Given the specific weather conditions, safety must be the top priority in summer-autumn production. The agricultural sector has developed a production plan that is closely aligned with the actual situation. To ensure a successful and safe harvest, localities and people need to strictly adhere to recommendations, implement technical solutions regarding seeds, invest in balanced and rational fertilizers, strengthen pest and disease control, and manage and use irrigation water efficiently and effectively. In particular, it is necessary to strengthen guidance for people to avoid direct sowing of rice seedlings and instead sow seedlings 10-15 days before the spring harvest, transplanting at the right time with the motto "the earlier the better"; thoroughly treat seeds before sowing seedlings, spray to control planthoppers infesting the seedling fields, and spray insecticides to control planthoppers 2-3 days before transplanting according to the instructions of the Plant Protection sector.
With the goal of achieving over 430,000 tons of food, Nghe An province aims to plant 97,000 hectares of rice this summer-autumn season (including 55,000 hectares in the summer-autumn season and 42,000 hectares in the main crop season).
