Strive to achieve over 430,000 tons of food in the summer-autumn crop
(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, April 19, Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference on summer-autumn crop production development 2012. Comrade Nguyen Tho Canh - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development chaired.
This year’s summer-autumn crop is forecast to take place in complex and unpredictable weather conditions, with a high risk of pests and diseases. The season requires early harvest to avoid flooding, while spring rice can be harvested as early as May 25 and as late as June 15 in areas where early-season rice grows poorly due to cold weather.
At the conference, after listening to the delegates' opinions, comrade Nguyen Tho Canh concluded: With the specific weather conditions, summer-autumn production must put safety first. The agricultural sector has developed a production plan that is consistent with the actual situation. In order to have a successful and safe production season, localities and people need to strictly follow the recommendations, properly implement technical solutions on seeds, invest in balanced and reasonable fertilizers, strengthen the prevention of pests and diseases, and manage and use irrigation water economically and effectively. In particular, it is necessary to strengthen the direction for people not to sow rice directly but to sow rice seedlings 10-15 days before the spring harvest, transplant on time with the motto "the sooner the better"; thoroughly treat seeds before sowing seedlings, spray to prevent planthoppers from entering the seedling fields, spray pesticides to prevent planthoppers from sending seedlings 2-3 days before transplanting according to the instructions of the plant protection sector.
With the target of achieving over 430,000 tons of food, this summer-autumn crop, Nghe An strives to cultivate 97,000 hectares of rice (of which the summer-autumn crop is 55,000 hectares and the winter-spring crop is 42,000 hectares).
