The day before, the main suspect, 18-year-old Moroccan Abderrahman Mechkah, confessed in court that he was the attacker. However, Mr. Laine, the lead investigator in the case, said it was possible that this was a false identity.
“We have many reasons to suspect that this subject provided false information to the authorities when he arrived in Finland,” Mr. Laine affirmed.
According to Finnish authorities, the subject identified as Mechkah came to Finland in 2016 and had previously lived in Germany. Mr. Laine said: "We cannot comment on the subject's motives yet... he is not ready to answer all the questions."
So far, Finnish police have arrested four people in connection with the knife attack and are issuing an international arrest warrant for a fifth person./.
