Coaches' reactions after EURO 2016 draw

There have been mixed reactions from coaches after the EURO 2016 finals draw ended.

At 0:00 on December 13, the EURO 2016 group stage draw took place in Paris, France. UEFA divided the 24 participating teams into 4 seed groups based on their rankings on the UEFA rankings.

The 24 participating teams will be divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each, with the top two teams and the 4 third-placed teams with better records advancing to the round of 16.

The draw has resulted in some interesting groups, including the deadly group E where Italy, Belgium, Republic of Ireland and Sweden, or Spain facing Croatia, Czech Republic and Türkiye in group D.

Speaking about the draw, Italy coach Antonio Conte said: “I think Belgium is the strongest team in the group and one of the top candidates for the tournament.”

“Of the other two opponents, we know very well how Sweden plays with the strength of Ibrahimovic. Along with that, the Republic of Ireland is not an easy opponent.”

Meanwhile, despite being drawn in a tough group with Poland, Ukraine and Northern Ireland, Germany coach Joachim Loew still seemed satisfied.

“It is an interesting group and we need to try to improve every game. Our target is to be on top of the group. We know Poland well after playing them twice in the qualifiers and that is an advantage for the team,” he said.

Spain is in Group D with Croatia, Czech Republic and Türkiye in Group D and this is the group where the defending champions are rated the highest.

However, coach Vicente del Bosque was cautious. He shared: "We need to respect our opponents. Croatia is a familiar team and they are not weak."

“This is not an easy group but our target is the third consecutive championship and we will give our best.”

Euro 2016 will take place from June 10 to July 10 at 10 stadiums across France. The opening match will be between host France and Romania./.
