Vietnam believes it is necessary to comply with the International Convention on the Prohibition of the Use of Chemical Weapons.

On August 29, 2013, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's reaction to information about the use of chemical weapons in Syria and the current situation in Syria, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luong Thanh Nghi stated:

“Vietnam is deeply concerned by reports that chemical weapons have been used in Syria and strongly condemns the use of chemical weapons to attack and kill civilians. We emphasize the need to comply with the International Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and call on all parties involved to exercise restraint, resolve the incident objectively and cautiously, through peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law and the United Nations Charter.”
