France has just passed a new law banning the use of plastic food containers and requiring that going forward, all disposable dishes should be made from biodegradable materials.

The law is part of the "Energy Transition for Green Growth" plan, which is expected to come into effect in 2020.
The bill is being welcomed by many Green Economy advocates, with some calling on the government to bring it into force as early as 2017.
However, the new law has met with fierce opposition from plastic packaging manufacturers. Specifically, the Brussels-based organization Pack2Go Europe, which represents European packaging manufacturers, said the new measures were "absolutely unreasonable."
The organization's Secretary General, Mr. Eamonn Bates, called on the European Commission (EC) to take appropriate legal action against the above French law because it violated European law, and accused the French ban of violating the regulations on free circulation of goods in the European Union (EU).
France's environment minister initially balked at the ban, fearing it could increase the economic burden on low-income households, which often rely on plastic tableware.
Earlier this year, France banned the use of plastic bags in supermarkets and shops.
This is not the only country in the world that has declared its opposition to the use of plastic products - which are considered one of the culprits of environmental pollution.
Currently, some states in the US have also banned the use of nylon bags in stores, while in Canada and most regions in the UK, the use of nylon bags requires paying extra./.
