41 years in prison for 3 subjects who stole nearly 2 billion VND

On the morning of December 19, the Dak Lak Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance trial of a criminal case and sentenced three defendants: Thai Quy Long in Cu Kpo commune, Krong Buk district; Pham Hong Phuc in Thanh Nhat ward, and Nguyen Hoang Bao Viet in Tan Tien ward, Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak) to 41 years in prison for theft of property. Of these, Long had three previous convictions, and Phuc had four previous convictions.
According to the indictment, Viet knew that Mr. Le Xuan Vinh's family on Le Hong Phong Street, Buon Ma Thuot City had a lot of assets and that his family members were often away, so he invited Phuc to break in and steal money to spend. Hearing Viet's invitation, Phuc agreed and called Long to join. On January 5, 2017, after discussing and assigning tasks, Viet showed Phuc and Long the location of Mr. Vinh's house.
On the evening of January 7, 2017, when he saw that everyone in Vinh's family was away, Viet immediately called Phuc and Long. When he left, Long brought a hydraulic pliers, a crowbar, and a bayonet. When they arrived, Phuc and Viet stood guard outside while Long used the hydraulic pliers to cut the lock and broke into Vinh's house, rummaging around, and used the bayonet to pry open the cabinet door and took more than 1.8 billion VND. They divided all of the money for personal use.
At the trial, the defendants confessed to all their crimes. Based on the details and developments of the case, the panel sentenced Thai Quy Long and Pham Hong Phuc to 14 years in prison each, and Nguyen Hoang Bao Viet to 13 years in prison.
