Speaking 'happily welcoming the big storm', the Head of the Miss Contest's Organizing Committee bowed and apologized.
Pham Duy Khanh - Head of the organizing committee of Miss Tourism Vietnam Global said in the final night: "We are happy to welcome the biggest storm ever."
FinalMiss Vietnam Tourism Global 2024just took place in Hai Phong with the highest position belonging to beauty Vo Cao Ky Duyen.
However, in the final night, the statement of Mr. Pham Duy Khanh - Head of the contest's Organizing Committee caused many viewers to criticize.
In response to the wave of public opinion, Mr. Pham Duy Khanh wrote a long article apologizing and explaining his misleading statement.
He explained:"When I spoke live on VTV9, I said, "We are very happy to welcome the biggest storm ever." Actually, what I intended to say was, "We are very happy that the competition is still taking place even though Hai Phong has just encountered the biggest storm ever."
However, as the head of the organizing committee and general director of the program, I was too distracted because it rained heavily for nearly an hour before the opening ceremony. I had to worry about the guests, the stage, the contestants, the performing artists, the electricity, the stage, etc., so my mind was as tense as a guitar string.
In addition, the speech paper I had printed out got wet and ruined because of the rain and wind, so I decided to give a speech and this unfortunate incident happened.

Pham Duy Khanh apologized to the audience and said that no matter how he explained, his words had unintentionally hurt many people.
"I sincerely bow my head to apologize to everyone, and hope to be forgiven. I am from Hai Phong, organizing the contest in my hometown, during a storm, the hotel where the contestants were staying was also splashed with water, the contestants together bailed out water and helped the hotel absorb the water.
I also decided to cancel the semi-final night, instead I contacted the city to organize 2 sessions for the contestants to clean up fallen trees, then organize a visit and give gifts to lonely elderly people.
I, all the contestants and everyone in the Organizing Committee also donated and transferred 150 million VND to the Fatherland Front of Hai Phong city to support people in flood-affected areas.
I think those activities are practical and meaningful in the days when the whole city is struggling to fight the storm. I am aware of that, so I have changed the contest's activities to bring meaningful experiences to the contestants, not just performing on stage as usual."he shared.
The head of the Miss Vietnam Global Tourism Organizing Committee also considered this a valuable lesson in speaking and handling situations on stage during the live broadcast of the contest. He promised to take in everyone's comments to make changes and improve himself.

Previously, in his speech at the final round of Miss Tourism Vietnam Global 2024, CEO Pham Duy Khanh shared that Hai Phong is not only famous for its seaport but also has many beauties who have won high prizes in beauty contests. He was proud of organizing this contest in the port city, after many years of Hai Phong being absent from beauty events.
"I am proud to be a son of Hai Phong city. After many years of the city being absent from beauty pageants, I took the risk to return, put forward the idea of organizing the contest and was approved by the city People's Committee. We were very happy and welcomed the biggest storm ever and this is also a very special point of this year's contest."he said.
This statement quickly received a lot of criticism from the audience because storm number 3 (Yagi) just landed in Hai Phong, causing heavy damage to people and property.
