Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan stated that one of the particularly important activities in childcare is expanded immunization, which involves vaccinating children to prevent infectious diseases.
"This is a free vaccination program, funded by the State and supported by international organizations. It has a broad social impact, affecting the entire population and is of particular importance in reducing the incidence of disease and mortality in children," the Vice President emphasized.
To date, Vietnam is one of the countries that has been able to domestically produce 10 out of 12 types of vaccines used in the expanded immunization program, contributing to proactive disease prevention and ensuring health security for its people.
The Vice President urged families with children aged 1-14 to strongly support this campaign. Authorities at all levels need to ensure sufficient resources so that the vaccination campaign achieves a high vaccination rate, is safe, and effective.
Accordingly, the Vice President requested the Ministry of Health to effectively coordinate inter-sectoral efforts, guide localities in developing and implementing vaccination plans on schedule, and ensure an adequate supply of vaccines and vaccination equipment;
Professional and technical guidance ensures that vaccinations are of the highest quality and absolutely safe.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health needs to coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training to organize vaccinations for children in the school system.
Also at the launch ceremony, Mr. Youssouf Abdel-Jelil, Head Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam, affirmed that vaccines are safe and save children's lives. Expanded immunization is one of the most effective and low-cost health interventions.
Appreciating the efforts and commitment of the Vietnamese Government in investing in the field of immunization, the UNICEF Representative also requested the Vietnamese Government to keep the expanded immunization program in a priority position on the list of basic health interventions.
Immediately after the launch ceremony, students at Le Quy Don Junior High School in Hanoi received the measles-rubella vaccine at the school's vaccination site.
