Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association and Head of the competition organizing committee, said that for nearly 40 years, the great victory of Spring 1975 has become a source of pride in the spiritual life of generations of Vietnamese people, and many works and articles from political, military, and cultural and artistic perspectives by authors both inside and outside the country have focused on this great historical event.
However, that reflection is insufficient compared to the magnitude of a victory that was decisive in achieving the complete triumph of the resistance war against the US to save the nation, ushering the entire nation into a new era, the era of national independence and socialism.
The writing contest "Spring 1975: An Epic of Complete Victory" aims to motivate and encourage veterans and all those who directly participated in the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising to record their profound memories of the stories, events, and achievements of themselves and their comrades.
These stories contribute to evoking pride in each person about the great victory of Spring 1975, about the triumph of the resistance war against the US to save the country, and inspire willpower and faith in building and defending the Fatherland today.
The competition also aims to celebrate revolutionary heroism, the courageous, resilient, resourceful, creative traditions, and the resolute will of our nation and army to liberate the South and unify the country; to honor and express gratitude for the great contributions of all strata of the Vietnamese people and the assistance of international friends in the cause of fighting against the US and saving the country.
The participants in the competition are those who directly participated in the General Offensive and the Great Victory of Spring 1975.
Entries should be in the form of memoirs or prose accounts of the most profound and authentic memories that the author directly participated in and wrote about. Entries must not plagiarize other people's work in any form; quotations and illustrations must be clearly cited. Entries should be submitted to the Organizing Committee before January 31, 2015, at the following address: Vietnam Veterans Newspaper, No. 1, Le Van Linh Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, or via email:[email protected].
The organizing committee will award 1 first prize, 5 second prizes, 10 third prizes, and 30 consolation prizes. The winning entries will be selected for publication in a book to serve the information and propaganda work commemorating the 40th anniversary of the great victory of Spring 1975, the liberation of the South, and the reunification of the country.../.
