Launching Youth Month 2013

Yesterday (February 24th), the Youth Unions of many provinces and cities organized the launching ceremony for Youth Month 2013.

To commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, this morning (February 24th) in Hanoi, the Hanoi City Youth Union organized the launching ceremony for Youth Month. First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Nguyen Dac Vinh, and over 1,000 youth union members and young people from various Youth Union, Youth Association, and Children's Union branches in Hanoi attended.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 1,000 Hanoi youth union members and young people mobilized to remove illegal advertisements and flyers in residential areas along Dinh Cong road; organized whitewashing to protect green trees; conducted general cleaning and waste collection; dredged 100m of ditch along the road leading into Trai residential area - Dinh Cong ward, Hoang Mai district; and organized a convoy of 100 bicycles with flags to promote environmental protection and build a civilized urban lifestyle on main streets in the district.

Many district and county youth unions in Hanoi also simultaneously launched specific activities such as: participating in cleaning the ceramic road along the Red River; organizing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a playground for children in Luu Khe village, Lien Bat commune, Ung Hoa district. To date, this is the 15th playground to be started, and 13 playgrounds have been inaugurated out of a total of 100 playgrounds for children in the suburban communes of Hanoi.

On the morning of February 24th, in Can Tho, the Can Tho City Youth Union, in coordination with the Can Tho City People's Committee, organized the launching ceremony of the 2013 Youth Month with the theme "Can Tho Youth Participate in Building Urban Civilization," with more than 1,200 youth union members, party members, students, and young people from across the city participating.

With the motto "Culturally appropriate behavior, civilized actions," the 2013 Youth Month focused on two peak activity phases with 10 key contents and 9 basic criteria. Through this, the aim was to encourage Youth Union members to actively, proactively, and creatively participate in achieving socio-economic, national defense, and local defense targets and tasks.

At the same time, during this year's Youth Month, the youth of Can Tho are focusing their efforts on promoting their pioneering and volunteer roles in participating in building urban civilization and new rural areas, participating in preventing social evils; and organizing youth activities related to careers and employment.

Following the launching ceremony, activities in response to Youth Month were widely organized, including the unveiling of a youth project to install 75 traffic safety awareness signs on main roads; cleaning up garbage in Xang Thoi Lake; and organizing free medical examinations and dispensing free medicine for more than 250 disadvantaged people and youth union members…

Ms. Tran Thi Vinh Nghi, Secretary of the Can Tho City Youth Union, said that the 2013 Youth Month will be widely implemented throughout the city, calling on youth union members to actively implement the set motto to further develop the city with the joint efforts of youth, people and local authorities.
