J Calvin Coffey, a researcher at University Hospital Limerick, Ireland, discovered a new part of the human body called the mesentery. Previously, it was considered to be a few fragmented structures in the digestive system, but now scientists have realized that it is actually a separate organ in the human body.
The study, published in the medical journal The Lancet and the world's most popular medical textbooks, has updated the definition of the new part.

The mesentery is part of the peritoneum - the lining of the abdominal cavity - that holds the intestines to the abdominal wall. |
Now, J Calvin Coffey and his team have established the anatomy and structure, and will then investigate the function of the new organ.
Although its function is still unclear, this discovery has opened up new research directions in the medical field, helping to better understand and treat diseases of the abdomen and digestive system.
The mesentery is part of the peritoneum - the lining of the abdominal cavity - that holds the intestines to the abdominal wall. It was described by Leanardo da Vinci in 1508, but was ignored for centuries.
